Español Diverso is
a Spanish course aimed at university students in the United States, geared towards achievement and
action, so that the student is able to use the language to perform effectively
in various real-life situations and communicative contexts, with the support of
multiple materials that promote motivation. It contains clear and simple
explanations of all the content and is complemented by a fully digital workbook
that serves as support for students and a teaching guide for teachers. The book includes access to the digital book as well as the workbook and supplemental exercises.
The course has been created taking into
account other fundamental skills that are considered essential to achieve
success in 21st century education at ACTFL and which are represented as the
5Cs:
Cultures: Students
research, explain, speak and reflect on the relationship between the practices
and perspectives of the cultures studied. This course is conceived from the
cultural content of multiple Spanish-speaking countries. The manual includes
activities to appreciate cultural products and their practices (CPP), different
cultural perspectives (CP) and cultural interaction (CI).
Comparisons:
Students develop knowledge about the nature of language and culture so that
they use language to investigate, explain, and reflect through comparisons of
L1 and L2.
Communities: In an
increasingly interconnected world, the ability to work in teams and collaborate
with others is essential to participate in the communities in which the
language is developed. In Español Diverso the activities involve not
only the ability to work in a group, but also to listen to and respect the
opinions of others, negotiate and resolve conflicts in a constructive manner,
contributing significantly to common goals, developing skills that go beyond
the classroom and can be put into practice in multicultural communities.
Communication: The
objective of the manual is effective communication, which involves the ability
to express ideas clearly and coherently, both orally and in writing, adapting
to the context and the target audience. Students actively listen, understand,
and respond appropriately to the messages received.
Connection:
Students connect with other disciplines and acquire information, thoughtfully
analyze information, question, evaluate arguments, reach conclusions, and
develop the ability to solve problems and make decisions in Spanish. Critical
thinking and problem solving are essential throughout the course to discern
between what is true and what is false, what is relevant and what is irrelevant
from information overload.
These skills are not only important for
academic success, but also for students' personal and professional development
in an increasingly complex and changing world.
Designed to promote functional learning
oriented towards achievement and action and fully integrating the 5Cs of
education and other ACTFL pedagogical and content proposals, Español Diverso
manages to train the student to use the language in varied communication
environments.
